Internationally acclaimed and award-winning pianist, Dr. Michael Tsalka joins Blenheim-local musician turned winemaking student, Elgee Leung to perform a programme featuring chamber works for piano and cello by Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms.
The German title of the concert 'Die innere Stimme', which translates as 'the inner voice', was what Robert Schumann used to describe the voice in his head that constantly tortured (inspired) him. A journey through the innermost voice of German music traditions from late Classical Period to the height of Romantic Period, the concert will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where sits the historical Steinway Model D from the 1920's, a piano from Royal Albert Hall, London, once the favourite of Rachmaninov. A wine tasting of an exquisite selection of Clark Estate wine will be held by winemaker, Simon Clark, during the intermission.
Programme
Beethoven: Sonata for Piano and Cello in G minor, Op. 5 no. 2
Schumann: Fünf Stücke im Volkston, Op. 102
Brahms: Sonata for Piano and Cello in E minor, Op. 38
