OFFENBACH La Vie Parisienne Overture
SAINT-SAëNS The Egyptian Piano Concert
Uwe Grodd - Conductor
Michael Houstoun - Piano
Originally programmed for Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary, the Name Day Overture is a ‘Happy Birthday’ song!
We look forward to presenting Mozart’s wonderful G minor Symphony – an emotional work, full of melodic writing of surpassing beauty, which rightly deserves to be called the ‘crown’ of Mozart’s symphonies.
This is followed by Offenbach’s overture to La Vie Parisienne – a celebration of all things Parisian. We invite you to dance to the gaiety and joie de vivre of this fun work.
Finally, New Zealand’s one and only Michael Houstoun will perform one of his favourite concertos – Saint-Saȅns’ remarkable Egyptian Piano Concerto! A keen traveller, Saint-Saȅns wrote this dazzling concerto while in Luxor, the sunny Egyptian city of famous temples. An exotic work, it is full of Javanese, Spanish and middle-Eastern influences – a musical “sea voyage” in Saint-Saȅns’ words.
How wonderful that Michael has chosen to perform this at Manukau!
